Academic Support Specialist (PU)

Parker University, Dallas, TX

Provide direct assistance to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs by serving as an advisor and aide to Parker University students. The primary responsibility is to provide special assistance to students with special accommodation as needed. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with proctoring exams in the Testing Center for students with special accommodations.
  • Assist with providing any needed accommodations to allow students to function in the classroom/lab environment.
  • Assist in converting print materials to alternate formats for accessibility.
  • Work with an assigned caseload of Parker students, providing high-touch individualized support toward academic, social, leadership, and life skills development.
  • Develop a personal, collaborative relationship with assigned students and provide individualized guidance and ongoing feedback.
  • Assist in the implementation of action plans to achieve student-defined success.
  • Work with other campus faculty and staff to support student success initiatives;
  • Assist students in developing decision-making skills.
  • Support students in honing time management skills to better utilize time, prioritize commitments, and meet deadlines.
  • Provide students with "study smarter" techniques through a wide assortment of active reading, test taking, and task analysis strategies.
  • Assist with processes involved with the Disability Services.
  • Provide support for all functions of the Department of Student Affairs.
  • Serve on College committees as assigned.
