Mission

The mission of the National Center for Developmental Education is to promote equity and social justice by improving the quality of practice in the field of developmental education and its undergirding components of learning assistance, adult education, and student success programs.

The center accomplishes this mission through:

• Sponsored and non-sponsored research on promising practices
• Systematic and ongoing training of developmental education professionals through

  • The Kellogg Institute and its Campus Improvement Projects
  • Local, regional, and national workshops and conferences
  • Individual and institutional consultation and mentoring
  • Appalachian State University’s Graduate Program in Developmental Education

• Regular publication of

  • The Journal of Developmental Education
  • Research in Developmental Education, and
  • Periodic white papers, books, and reports featuring research-based practical applications, and

• Resource brokering and technical services for individuals and institutions.
